2 years of failure..... (2018 March to 2020 January)

 

The time period after 2018 March (after leaving KPMG Sri Lanka) was not a good or successful time period for me as a professional.

The exit interview for the KPMG Sri Lanka position was held on 06th March 2018 in the human resources department.

The farewell ceremony for several employees including me were held on 2018 March 19th at KPMG Sri Lanka premises.

After some time at home, I applied for an administration executive post at Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) following up on an advert that was on Sunday Times using email. The interview for the job was held on April 23rd, 2018 at 8 am. I was called and informed about the confirmation of the employment and was requested to submit relevant documentation of confirmation of employment on May 01st, 2018. My employment at DIMO started on May 02nd, 2018. Unfortunately due to mental, physical sicknesses and low motivation I had to resign on 08th May 2018.

During this period I spent a lot of money and energy to purchase a lot of books which was later evident that it was an unnecessary expenditure.

And also I was studying for executive-level examinations for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) which I could not complete as I expected due to my personal deviations in objective attainment. But on May 30th, 2018 I was able to sit and get through the Information Technology (IT) examination of the executive-level of ICASL.

After 08th May 2018, I applied for many jobs through Sunday Times and TopJobs.lk but could not get any job interviews.

In the month of April 2018, I applied my resume / CV to Sampath Bank PLC, Human Resources Department, and received a mail with regards to my selection exam on July 19th, 2020 which I participated in.

On 07th August 2018, I applied for the position of audit trainee at Baker Tilly: Edirisinghe & Co. and on the same day I attended an interview but the job was declined due to a personal reason.

On 29th August 2018 at 11 am the second selection interview was held at Sampath Bank PLC head office and on 31st August 2018 at 09 AM the third and final selection interview was held.

After the interview process, I was told to start working on 19th September 2020.

I was assigned to the Wattala branch on 24th September 2018.

But like in DIMO, due to personal demotivation factors I left the job in Sampath Bank PLC: Wattala branch on October 24th, 2018.

With this series of unfortunate events, I was aware that this will impact my career and professional life negatively. To these unfortunate events, my mental state also impacted indirectly. Therefore to find a cure to this mental depression I sought medical advice from a psychologist. That was on November 28th, 2020. After some discussion, her advice was to seek your personal academic and professional objectives with positive vibes facing life.

This tendency to make decisions without proper planning and short term vision led to a negative impact on my personal, academic, and professional life.

Then 2019 also arrived.

In 2019 January 09th I submitted a resume to SJMS / Delloitte associates. And on January 16th I was asked to participate in a selection exam and a final interview on January 21st morning at 09.15 AM.

The job was initiated on 23rd January 2019 and unfortunately ended on 25th March 2019 due to my personal weaknesses.

In 2019 I couldn't pass any exam academically as well.

At the end of 2019, I started doing a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) affiliated with the University of Colombo which was also deferred due to a sudden job appointment at NEXT Campus (Pvt) Ltd. which started from 31st January 2020.

It should be specially noted that I was watching a lot of films and was reading a lot of books at an average pace negatively impacting my education. And also I purchased a lot of literature and other books spending mine and my parents' money.

My daydreaming increased drastically during these two years. The good goals and objectives of achieving an academic goal and gaining a professional life left from my perspective. With that laziness arose and it leads to making my academic achievements made in 2015 to 2017 pointless. Accordingly, a time period of failure arose in the period between 2018 and 2019.

Though finding a job at NEXT Campus (Pvt) Ltd. which is a tertiary educational service provider was a success in a way, the job role was completely different from my previous experience as a financial statement auditor. This job role is specialized in student services functions and has no auditing or finance relation to it whatsoever.

This small blog post is an attempt to shed some light on my dark path filled with failures and misguidance and find some focus to achieve success in my professional life.
